10 Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick’s day #8: California Poppies

This is part of our Lexington Inn SLO’s post series on 10 ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s day (thanks to the Tribune). We are at #8, which is “Discover the Pot of Gold”, i.e. California Poppies.

“The California poppy, the state flower of California, is also known as copa de oro, or cup of gold. Close enough to a pot, right? And early spring is the best time to see the flaming orange flowers in San Luis Obispo County” courtesy of the Tribune.

Our state flower the golden or California poppy is out in full force and makes a treasure of our verdant green hillsides. Unfortunately, they don’t do well when tamed (cut and put in a vase), so enjoy them au natural as you drive through our many rural and meandering roads.

10 Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day #9

This is part of our 10 ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – this is #9 (compliments of the Tribune). If you are REALLY into all things St. Patrick’s Day, then buckle up and book a stay in the Irish Hills Room at the Madonna Inn. For most of us, this is a bit over the top, but I’m sure there are those among us who will relish the kitschy decor of the room.

Take a Hike in the Irish Hills

Number ten on our list of fun things to do for St. Patrick’s Day is to “Take a Hike in the Irish Hills”.

These hills are a beautiful color of Emerald Green and offer several different hiking paths. The From Creek Trail is the most common trail is approximately three miles with a 500 foot elevation and is free! Dogs and bikes are also welcome.
