Covell’s California Clydesdales

Most people are unaware that we have a large thriving herd of Clydesdale horses nestled up in the green rolling hills of Cambria. Covell’s California Clydesdales are located on over 2000 acres of land overlooking the Pacific ocean by Ralph Covell and his daughter Tara. The ranch is open to the public by appointment for historical tours, trail rides and riding lessons.

Visit Firestone-Walker Brewery

For those of you out there who enjoy a fresh brew, a visit to Firestone-Walker Brewery is in order!

Firestone-Walker is now the 13th largest brewery in the nation and is slated to grow over the next few years to produce over a million barrels a year. Firestone-Walker is under the corporate umbrella of Belgian Brewery Duvel Moortgat which has helped to fund the brewery’s recent expansion.

While you’re up visiting you might consider one of their tours, or perhaps lunch in their restaurant, “The Taproom” where you can taste many of the beer being brewed on the premises.

Discover Disk Golf on the Central Coast

Castoro Disk Golf
Castoro Disk Golf

At the Lexington Inn SLO, we know our guests are always looking for fun things to do. Today we want to suggest that you discover Disk Golf on the Central Coast.

You might be asking, “what is disk golf?” The game features 18 holes, but instead of hitting a golf ball toward a tiny hole, you toss a small frisbee disk with the goal of landing it in chain-strung metal baskets. This is a family-friendly sport that literally takes just minutes to learn; yet, to master can take a lifetime!

There are two disk golf courses that we’re aware of on the Central Coast. One is located at Heilman Park in south Atascadero, right off of El Camino Real (use the Santa Barbara exit). The other course is located at Castoro cellars where each tee offers information about the immediate natural environment.

Experience Kukkula Wines Tour

We are blessed with many wineries in the area both south and north of San Luis Obispo. So, it’s always fun when we come across a new tour or activity associated with a particular winery.

Kukkula Wines
Kukkula Wines

We’ve just learned that owner, Kevin Jussila, of Kukkula winery is offering a tour and brunch at his vineyard. Kukkula is a small estate winery in the far reaches of the Adelaida district with Kukkula serving as winemaker as well as owner.

A new hiking tour takes guests through the vineyard and into the owners’ hilltop home for brunch and a uniquely intimate experience. The tour begins at the bottom of the hillside vineyard and works its way through the vines as Jusilla describes his amazing 10 year journey of transforming an old walnut orchard into an organic, dry-farmed winery growing Rhone wine varietals.

Try LXV Wines

For a very unique tasting experience we encourage you to try LXV wines.

LXV’s wines tasting room is located on the corner of 13th and Pine Street in Paso Robles. As you walk through the door to the tasting room you’ll find yourself transformed to a different reality: the walls are painted a cobalt blue, the room is filled with comfy beds made into couches littered with a multitude of pillows, with tinges of gold filling the room.

Dana Adobe

Have you discovered the Dana Adobe yet?

The Dana Adobe is a historic adobe that has been turned into a local cultural center. The Dana Adobe is located in Nipomo, just south of San Luis Obispo, and affords the opportunity for visitors to see what life was like in the early California Rancho Days. The adobe is well maintained and offers the opportunity to walk life as our early pioneers. The setting is perfect for history lovers or those just seeking a beautiful and unknown spot for a picnic.

What People are Hungry For…

Food and Wine magazine recently published an article on “What People are Hungry for ….” and,

knowing that many of our Lexington Inn SLO guests are foodies, we wanted to share it with you! Ready for some great food?

Here’s the list:

What is a SIP-Certified Winery?

We don’t see if often, so what is a SIP-Certified Winery?

Niner Wine Estates - SIP Certified
Niner Wine Estates – SIP Certified

“SIP” stands for “sustainability in practice” a new certification that examines several winery operations including energy efficiency, water use, glass and paper recycling, social equity and financial sustainability. This certification goes beyond infrastructure to include systems and practices to protect employees and create a good work environment. Niner Wine Estates became the first SIP-certified winery in California. Four other San Luis Obispo County wineries are among those highlighted in the August/September issue of The SOMM Journal. The article suggests that the common thread running through the most prestigious vineyards on the central coast is SIP-Certified practices. Included on this list are the following wineries: Ancient Peaks, Halter Ranch, Chamisal Vineyards and Niven Family Wines.

San Luis Obispo Farmer’s Market

Come Thursday each week and the streets shut down to welcome the San Luis Obispo farmer’s market.

Farmers Market
Farmers Market

Vendors who sell everything from flowers to fresh meat line Higuera Street to hawk their wares at the San Luis Obispo farmer’s market. This is one of the best farmer’s markets in the area with lots of street BBQ’s and other specialty food for sale. Us locals plan to spend the night buying our fresh fruit and veggies, flowers for the house, while enjoying some fresh BBQ ribs, sausage and corn on the cob – yum!
